Release Announcement: Real-Time Data Viewer (RDV) 1.9
NEESit is pleased to announce the release of Real Time Data-Viewer (RDV) Version 1.9.
RDV is a visualization environment for scientific and engineering data. Built on top of the RBNB dynamic data server, it supports local and remote data sources and can visualize numeric, video, image, and audio data in a number of different ways.
This release contains significant new features for viewing images and video, a new dial visualization, and support for exporting MATLAB files. A number of smaller improvements for plotting have been added in addition to a few bug fixes.
Notable new RDV features include the ability for users to:
- Support for zooming and panning of an image. A clickable navigation image can be used to jump around parts of an image when zoomed in.
- Filmstrip interface to view images sequentially.
- Support for viewing a thumbnail of an image to conserve bandwidth.
- DialViz, a visualization extension to view a numeric data channel on a dial.
- Export of data to the MATLAB MAT-file format
- Support for port knocking authentication
For a complete list of enhancements to RDV, please see the RDV 1.9 Release Notes. Access additional information about RDV at its Google Site.
NEESit is focused on working closely with our users to extend the telepresence capabilities and improve the overall experience of a researcher participating in a test remotely.
Software and Services | Jun 18, 2008Release Announcement: NEEScentral 1.8
We are pleased to announce the release of NEEScentral Version 1.8. NEEScentral is a web-based centralized data repository for managing, sharing, storing, and publishing data.
The NEEScentral 1.8 release includes a significantly redesigned NEEScentral architecture by migrating the data repository to Oracle which is now synchronized with an off-site replication system at UNAVCO. This migration resulted in:
- Improved database for better performance and data correctness
- Reduced errors, increased performance, and better maintainability of the NEEScentral Data Portal
- Faster evolution of future features
- Easier integration of community developed data model extensions
Highlights of new features and enhancements include:
- Ability to create and customize an experiment report
- New advanced search capability
- New capability to associate a specific image with a project and experiment that represents the research being conducted
- New capability to delete projects, experiments, trials and perform more file management, including: moving, copying, and deleting
- Additional features to support data Curation
- Increased maximum file upload size to 2 GB
For a complete list of enhancements to NEEScentral, please see the NEEScentral 1.8 Release Notes.
How to Get Started:
- Register for a NEES account
- Begin using NEEScentral as a collaborative workspace for project organization and data structuring in support of physical experiments and/or computational simulations
Leveraging NEESit Services in NEESR Proposals
Are you submitting a NEESR proposal for the upcoming solicitation? Would you like help with language about NEESit’s ability to support your research?
Below is text that includes the services NEESit is able to provide all NEESR researchers:
"We will leverage the services supported by NEESit. This includes integrating any data that is produced in our research into the NEEScentral data repository, working with NEESit staff to extend the NEES data model as necessary, leveraging the NEESforge code repository for any software produced during our research, using the NEES allocation for accessing computational capabilities of TeraGrid, contributing any extensions made to NEES supported software (e.g. OpenSees) back to the core source code, and employing the visualization and telepresence tools such as Real-Time Data Viewer, Data Turbine, N3DV, and 3DDV as appropriate."
Should you have questions or would like to talk about services outside the scope listed above, please contact Lelli Van den Einde.
Software and Services | Jan 24, 2008Release Announcement: NEEScentral 1.7.7
NEESit is pleased to announce the release of NEEScentral 1.7.7 providing improved usability to NEEScentral.
Notable new features include the ability for users to:
- Create a printable NEES Facility report providing detailed information about each of the 15 NEES equipment sites. These reports allow potential researchers to print a catalog of information about the various facilities they are interested in using.
- Delete Projects, Experiments, Trials, and Repetitions allowing for more flexibility and control in managing projects.
- Rename files in NEEScentral.
- Allow researchers to associate an image with their project and/or experiment that show up as clickable thumbnails throughout NEEScentral. This provides a quick visual image demonstrating the main objective of the project and/or experiment.
The NEEScentral 1.7.7 release also includes improvements to the way a Facility's inventory of sensors is displayed allowing users and equipment site administrators to better navigate through the sensor and calibration information.
NEESit is focused on working closely with our users to facilitate the publishing of data in NEEScentral.
Software and Services | Jan 23, 2008Release Announcement: Real Time Data-Viewer (RDV) Version 1.8 and Data Turbine Utilities Version 3.9
NEESit is pleased to announce the January releases of Real Time Data-Viewer (RDV) Version 1.8 and Data Turbine Utilities Version 3.9.
Notable new features in RDV include the ability for users to:
- Disable the export menu if no source/channels are selected.
- Import OpenSees XML data files into RDV.
- Import video into RDV from files residing on a local machine or in NEEScentral that have been stored in a zip file.
The latest RDV release makes use of an upgraded version of Data Turbine bundled with Data Turbine Utilities (Version 3.9). Data Turbine provides the back-end services that RDV uses in order to time-synchronize and stream data from an experiment. Recent extensions to Data Turbine include enhancements to the management tools required for automatically archiving data from the data turbine server directly into NEEScentral.
NEESit is focused on working closely with our users to extend the telepresence capabilities and improve the overall experience of a researcher participating in a test remotely.
