NEESit Focuses on Community Engagement and Participation
The NEES community stands poised to transform itself from a loosely federated coalition of independent, component-based research projects to a systems-focused cyberinfrastructure-enabled collaboratory. This can only be accomplished through an extensive shift towards a culture based on strong collaboration and communication among all partners. The technology exists, but it needs to get into the hands of users in an open, collaborative context that encourages communication, exchange, enhancement, and repurposing of data, information, techniques, and tools.
In an effort to achieve this cultural transformation, NEESit's emphasis in FY08 is a bottom-up, user-focused IT-support strategy that is based on pro-active, wide-ranging outreach and training forums targeting adoption and utilization of NEESit tools, as well as the contribution of community developed tools to enable new far-reaching Earthquake Engineering research. This community engagement effort will be accomplished through:
- The formation of a NEES User Committee to formally represent various stakeholders in setting strategic priorities, compiling and prioritizing user needs, tracking progress, and assessing achieved success on behalf of community.
- A traveling NEESit Road Show hitting all regions of the country that will provide an overview of the current state of NEESit software and services including hands on tutorials and best practices focused on getting data into NEEScentral and publishing data.
- Pro-active and regular direct communication with all NEESR researchers and projects.
This community engagement effort will be a joint effort between NEESit and NEESinc. For more information, please contact it-support@nees.org.
