NEES Network in China and NEESit Discuss Future Opportunities for Collaboration
On February 25, 2008, NEESit was pleased to host a Chinese delegation representing the China Earthquake Administration (CEA: English Site, Chinese Site). Meeting at the NEESit offices in La Jolla, California, the Chinese group expressed their interest in developing a similar cyberinfrastructure system as NEESit as well as the potential for broad collaboration between NEESit and the future Chinese platform, Simulation of Earthquake Engineering Damage (SEED).
Morning talks included an introduction and overview of NEESit software and services presented by Chaitan Baru, NEESit PI and Lelli Van Den Einde, Assistant Director of NEESit. Afternoon discussions focused on the NEEScentral data repository, telepresence tools, computational simulation, hybrid simulation and future opportunities for collaboration. The Chinese delegation was also given an in depth tour of the machine room at the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC).
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to collaboration between China and NEESit including future cooperation in sharing technology, services, and data.
